Age Concern - Counties Manukau Office

On 01 July 2019 Age Concern Counties Manukau amalgamated with Age Concern Auckland and Age Concern North Shore. This amalgamation makes Age Concern Auckland one of the most significant providers of services and support for older adults within the region. Amalgamating ensures that Age Concern Auckland can continue to deliver relevant services and support to the Auckland region now and in the future.

 

At the heart of Age Concern are our clients and the way we work within our local communities. Age Concern Auckland provides:

  • Intervention Services that support older people suffering from abuse, neglect and trauma.

  • Aging Well Services that assist older people to stay independent, healthy and active

  • Social Connection Services that mitigate loneliness, promote community involvement and enable mobility

  • A dedicated Asian service to meet the needs of the growing older Asian community

Counties Manukau Office hours are 9-4 Monday to Thursday and 9-1 Fridays.

Age Concern Counties Manukau Staff Members

Anna Jessen

Anna joined our team in August, 2018. She is began as maternity leave cover for Office Manager in August, 2018, and has now moved into her new role as Transition Support Officer to assist in merging the three organisations, Age Concern Auckland, Age Concern Counties Manukau, and Age Concern North Shore into one smoothly operating organisation as 'Age Concern Auckland'. Before she joined the team at Age Concern Counties Manukau she did a Bachelors degree in Population Health and Health Promotion at the University of Auckland. As part of this degree she did her student placement with Age Concern Counties Manukau.

Brendon Murton

Brendon has been a volunteer on Saturday mornings at The Vintage Store since it started in 2012.  He has gained a vast amount of experience and knowledge on how the store operates and has now been employed as a Vintage Store Coordinator. Brendon enjoys working with and inspiring others at The Store to achieve their best. His background includes completing a Carpentry Course at Manukau Institute of Technology, working hard and getting the job done is Brendon’s passion. Please contact Brendon on tvsadmin@accm.org.nz. Brett Johnstone

Brett Johnstone joined the team at ACCM in March 2014 and really enjoys visiting the clients referred to the Handyman Fieldworker service.  He has lots of information with him about services available as well as attending to the odd jobs. Brett’s has been a carpenter and then a building estimator for 20 odd years, and then a personal trainer for a further 20 yrs.  He feels this role with Age Concern brings the skills that he has learnt in these jobs together perfectly. Sports have always been a very important part of Brett’s life, not only as a Personal Trainer but at a national level, (and occasionally national champion) athlete and he sees health and well-being as a critical asset, particularly for those who are older. Though still active as both a carpenter and a personal trainer Brett now has the time to become more involved in the wider community and looks forward to being able to bring enthusiasm, cheerfulness and a wide range of people experience to provide both client and the ACCM team his support. Lisa Jury

Lisa started in October 2017. Lisa’s role will be primarily to work with the Local Falls Working Group and community based exercise providers to engage with key stakeholders to increase access to strength and balance programmes (that meet the 9 criteria) for older people in South Auckland. Lisa’s background fits this role perfectly. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Sport & Recreation and Post. Grad. Cert in Health Science, a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and a Master trainer for Chronic Disease Self-Management Education. In previous roles, Lisa’s focus has included several years in community development, public and primary health promotion, as well as active lifestyles interventions for older people with a chronic condition or at risk of falls. Having also worked for 3 years in a Regional Sports Trust, Lisa has had experience working with exercise providers and populations of all ages. Lisa Wall

Lisa joined the team in June 2017, after recently caring for her mother-in-law.  She has over 20 years’ experience in corporate marketing and operational project roles and a Masters in International Business. She has an active family of boys (Dad included), who enjoy soccer, surfing and travel.  Caring for an older person brought an awareness of the growing need in our community for elderly support services and she looks forward making a positive contribution to the team at Age Concern. Please contact Lisa on lisaw@accm.org.nz

Lynn Cicero

Lynn joined the team in June 2017. Lynn moved from South Africa to New Zealand 11years ago with her husband and son, they also have a dog Boston. Lynn has 9 years’ experience working for a non-profit organisation where she managed and implemented various community projects. Within in that role Lynn gained experience in managing, mentoring and training large groups of volunteers. Maxine Oakey

Maxine Oakey joined Age Concern Counties Manukau as a social worker in the Elder Abuse and Neglect Prevention Service on 24/8/15. Maxine moved to New Zealand with her husband and two teenage daughters in 2004 from the UK.  She settled with her family in Takanini moving to Papakura three years ago.  In 2006 Maxine began working for the Stroke Foundation Northern Region as a field officer and it was this role which awakened her interest in social work.  In 2013 she graduated from Unitec with a Bachelor of Social Practice.  Since gaining her degree she has worked as a social worker for Family Works Northern and Stand Children’s Services.  Maxine enjoys spending time with her family and pets and travelling overseas.  She is really looking forward to starting her new social work role with Age Concern Counties Manukau. Melanie Jaggs

Our second longest serving staff member Melanie started as an employee with Age Concern Counties Manukau in July 2005. Melanie works 20 hours per week and is usually off-site delivering programmes in communities through the Counties Manukau area. Melanie was born in England, emigrating to NZ with her family in the 1960's. She trained as an Occupational Therapist in NZ, and specialized in working in Older Persons health whilst living in London during her OE. She returned to NZ 30 years ago, (with English husband in tow), and after some time at home with the children, returned to work at Middlemore Hospital in the A,T & R Unit. Melanie left the hospital and installed personal medical alarms for a couple of years, during which time, she became a volunteer with Age Concern, facilitating the falls prevention programme, "Step Ahead".  She is a very experienced Health Promotion educator with more than a decades experience delivering programmes to older adults in South Auckland. Outside of work, Melanie enjoys time spent with extended family, being involved with her local church family, travelling, photography, reading, scrapbooking, walking and training her puppy, and letting her inner child come out to play when out and about with her Red Hat Society sisters. Nicole Chappell

Nicole joined the ACCM team in July 2017, she is an experienced qualified counsellor and full member of NZAC. She has a passion for the elderly. Many years ago she was a live in caregiver for an elderly woman in England, and the experience had a positive and lasting experience on her. Nicole has worked voluntary for Presbyterian Support Services as a companion for a few Elderly people. She has worked in a residential home for Bupa NZ as a rehabilitation coach with brain injured people and was a self-employed counsellor. Nicole has previously been a clinical counsellor 4 days a week at a residential shelter for men who are homeless, awaiting trial or have been bailed from either the courts or remand. Her experience also includes working as a counsellor at the Papakura Marae and she maintains strong links with the Marae. Nicole says, my counselling theory is one of empathy, and close understanding with my clients. Not just from a learned approach, but also an intuitive one. Sandy Andrews

Administrator

Sandy is our longest serving staff member and has been with ACCM since November 2003.  She is the person you usually hear when you telephone the office or who greets you when you visit the office.  She has over 10 years’ experience handling enquiries from older people and enjoys the chance to interact with them. Contact for Sandy reception@accm.org.nz 2794331 ext. 800

Suzanne (Suzi) Hogan

Suzi joined the team at Age Concern Counties Manukau in March 2018. Suzi has a varied background including community and social work, she has extensive experience as a Charity Store Manager and more recently Suzi has been a victim support worker. Suzi is really looking forward to working alongside all the great volunteers at our 'Vintage Store' and she has a vision of growth for the store and the community space within.
